Vince Hagedorn realized he was out of fuel and had to land quickly. He immediately remembered 'Biggles, Pioneer Air Fighter' story book he had once read, where Biggles used "pancake" technique to fly sideways into a tree to lessen the impact of a crash landing. Hagedorn "pancaked" into a tree at the Caird Park Golf Course in Dundee City, Scotland leaving the scene with a big grin on his face.
